What the publications show
Two questionnaire studies find the same pattern: high job demands go together with a stronger intention to leave among managers, support and influence with a weaker one. They concern Italian nurse managers (University of Chieti-Pescara) and Estonian and Finnish school leaders (Tallinn).

In the Italian study, 61.2 per cent of 464 nurse managers wanted to leave within twelve months. A good relationship with senior management went together with a weaker intention to leave, conflict between work and private life with a stronger one. This rests on a single study.
Tallinn University sees differences between countries: Finnish school leaders report more work and a faster pace, Estonian ones more cognitive demands and more resources. Voion, the labour market fund for Dutch education, researched the labour market and careers of school leaders in the Netherlands.
